Player Insider: Danis Cajic

My name is Danis Cajic this previous season I was the U-17 DA goalkeeper. I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona; however, culturally, I am Bosnian. My soccer journey started at the young age of 6 and it had since become my passion. Being Bosnian, soccer has always been a big aspect of our culture. I have always looked up to the European style of play, Barça’s especially. Being a keeper myself for 10 years, I admire how much their goalkeepers are incorporated in the game. Growing up, I played for a local team in Arizona and took part in their ODP program. I always wanted to play at the highest level where I can grow professionally and personally. Due to my hard work and ambition, I was fortunate enough to get invited to a few camps by Barça’s scouts. Additionally, I was nominated by Generation Adidas to attend a camp in Amsterdam hosted by Ajax Soccer Club. I was so inspired and motivated to succeed after these camps. Shortly after, I had received my offer from Barça Academy. I am honored to have been a part of the Barça Family since they put their roots in Arizona.

My day as a commuter consists of waking up at 6:00AM, then attending class from 7:00AM to 2:30PM. After class, I hustle to get to practice as we live an hour and a half away from Barça Residency Academy. I’m committed to maintaining my high GPA, I study any chance I get when I’m not at the academy; I have to give my all in class and on the field. I’m very thankful for my amazing teachers at Ironwood High School for working with me and my soccer schedule especially during my away games. I am lucky enough to have such supportive parents who share a mutual love for soccer and push me to be my best in every aspect of my life; they also drive me to all my practices, as well as attend all of my games. Without their never-ending support, I wouldn’t be able to pursue my dreams.

During the nearly 4 years that I have spent with my team and staff, I have experienced many significant and eye-opening experiences. The environment at Barça Residency Academy is outstanding; the coaches and staff are very professional and they really give their all to the players to help us succeed. They make sure we’re challenged and push us to be our best selves. I am very grateful to have such a great staff and coaching team. Personally, I’ve made sacrifices as I am unable to attend as many social gatherings, but in order to get to where I am now and where I want to be, I had to make those sacrifices and focus on my goals.

This lifestyle comes with its sacrifices which I will continue making because soccer is my present and future. As stated before, I don’t mind missing social gatherings if it means I’ll continue to develop as a player. My goal is to better myself not only on the field, but in every aspect of my life; I feel like soccer will only drive me towards the right path. My future goals consist of becoming a professional soccer player and the chance to play for the Bosnian National Team. I believe with my work ethic and determination that I can overcome any obstacle in my path. I am very excited and looking forward to continuing my journey with the Barça community.
